As we mature, our skin goes through many changes that can give us the feeling of looking “old.” From acne scars to wrinkles, we collect a range of unwanted aging signs. For some, the thought of undergoing invasive procedure(s) to get rid of these “skin deep” concerns can feel like too much of a risk. Fortunately, there are other options that don’t involve the commitment of surgical and/or invasive skin resurfacing procedures. At MDSkin®, we offer a radiofrequency microneedling treatment with SRF that treats issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, large pores, and scarring.
What is Radiofrequency Microneedling SRF?
Radiofrequency microneedling SRF treatment is designed to improve the texture of the skin, as well as tighten it in the process. It is used to reduce the look of wrinkles, as well as diminish scars from acne or other causes. SRF stands for short pulse radiofrequency, which penetrates the skin to produce new collagen. This process tightens the skin and leaves a more even look throughout.
How Is SRF Treatment Different?
Traditional microneedling uses tiny needles to create microchannels in the skin. This process is designed to stimulate collagen production, which creates a more even tone and texture. In comparison, Scarlet SRF applies short pulse radiofrequency to the microneedling process. This goes beyond the surface level of the skin to further boost collagen production and elastin, as well as improve the firmness and density of the skin. Unlike some laser treatments, which are also effective in treating similar skin conditions, radiofrequency microneedling is safe and effective for all skin tones.
The Treatment Process
A numbing agent is applied to the areas being treated before the procedure begins. The treatment will start with a deep pass to deliver high energy and strengthen the collagen foundation in the skin. For a second pass, we will target the surface with more shallow, lighter energy to fine tune those stubborn fine lines and wrinkles. It’s normal for patients to feel a warm sensation with a light amount of pressure during treatment that can be slightly uncomfortable for some. Depending on the area being treated, this procedure only takes about two hours or less to complete and offers little to no downtime.
Getting Results
Immediately after treatment, you may notice some slight redness or swelling. This will likely fade within a few hours following the procedure. You may begin to see rapid results in the form of tighter and smoother skin. Over time, these results will increase as your skin works to produce new collagen and elastin. For best results, it is suggested that more than one treatment be done that are spaced four to six weeks apart.
