Everything You Need to Know About Botox

Botox is continually the most popular cosmetic procedure year after year, yet it’s common to not know much about what it is and how it works. While Botox maintains its popularity, there are a lot of common misunderstandings and misinformation about it. If you’re looking for an effective anti-aging boost for your look, then Botox is a great option. Here’s what to know about it and how it can help.

What is Botox Used For?

When you hear of Botox, it’s typically associated with cosmetic treatment. For decades now, plastic surgeons have been using Botox to reduce or relax the appearance of wrinkles and furrows that are caused by repetitive muscle movements. Botox can effectively pause unwanted muscle movements, making it a valuable medical treatment too. It has been used to mitigate the impact of migraine headaches, overactive bladders, muscle spasms, and even certain eye disorders. In short, Botox has had a long history of successful results in both the cosmetic and medical fields, making it a very safe and effective treatment option in the hands of trained providers.

How Botox Works

Botox works using a process called neuromodulation. In short, this means that the active ingredient in Botox, botulinumtoxin type A, can block nerve impulses from the brain that usually cause muscle movements. This comes with a lot of benefits– first, it can relax tense muscles that contribute to the appearance of furrows and lines. Secondly, it can prevent muscle movements that will continue to cause fine lines and creases over time. Most patients see Botox results last between 3 and 6 months, after which you can opt for re-treatment.

The Treatment Process

Botox can be administered in a quick and easy injection session at one of our Scottsdale offices.   A handful of precise injections are performed using a very fine needle. This takes skill and experience in order to receive the best results, so it’s important to always receive your Botox treatments from a licensed and experienced injector under the supervision of a plastic surgeon. Once the injections are completed, you can return home. You’ll begin to notice your results emerge within a few days, but final results take 14 days. You might experience some minor redness and swelling in the meantime.
