How Does MaxFX™ CO2 Work?
MaxFX™ CO2 is a carbon dioxide laser which applies short bursts or high-energy laser light to targeted areas of the skin. During treatment, damaged skin cells are vaporized one layer at a time, which allows healthy, new skin to replace it for a healthy glow. These treatments can be controlled to provide the perfect depth of power to treat even the most delicate of facial areas.
This treatment is a great option to rejuvenate your face and create a smoother, more even complexion. While it cannot provide results as dramatic as a facelift, patients can see an improvement in their overall facial appearance for a boost in confidence.
CO2 Laser FAQ
What is the difference between ablative and non-ablative lasers?
Ablative lasers vaporize columns of deep tissue in the skin. It is a more aggressive procedure to treat more severe skin damage.
Non-ablative lasers use a different type of light beam to penetrate deep into the skin to stimulate collagen production. The surface skin is still intact, making it less aggressive than ablative lasers with less downtime.
How long does a CO2 treatment take?
One treatment takes about 45 minutes to complete. Patients usually arrive an hour early for the application of numbing cream to ensure that treatment is as comfortable as possible.
How long is downtime for a CO2 treatment?
Most patients take about a week to heal. After one week, patients can feel free to wear makeup and return to work.
Are there side effects?
Like any laser treatment, there are some possible side effects. These include temporary dark spots, which should resolve within four weeks with the use of a prescription skin lightener. There is also a rare risk of skin infection, so be sure to follow our post-op instructions carefully.
Is the treatment painful?
Prior to treatment, we apply a topical numbing cream to help make your treatment as comfortable as possible. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well.
